Functional Medicine Lab Testing
Milton Bastidas, DC, CIHP
Lab testing is foundational to functional medicine. It can show you what is causing patient symptoms, if they are headed toward a disease, track the progress of a protocol, and motivate them to stick with the protocol. Comprehensive testing provides patients with information and knowledge about the function of their body that they typically do not receive from their conventional doctor visits. In conventional medicine, doctors use labs to screen for disease, not get to the root of it. Functional medicine uses lab testing to catch a health trend that is on the way to disease but that can still be slowed, halted, or reversed.
Many are intrigued by functional lab testing but become overwhelmed when determining which to use, where to start, and how to determine what to recommend once the results are in. From detection of pathogens with a stool test to screening for food sensitivities to unearthing micronutrient deficiencies or hormonal imbalances, learn how functional medicine approaches lab testing differently than conventional doctors and looks for root cause versus simply screening for a diagnosis.
In this webinar functional medicine practitioner and Vice President of the College of Integrative Medicine Dr. Milton Bastidas takes us through how he uses functional labs in his practice along with real patient scenarios on how he handles interventions based on their results.
