Polyvagal Theory: Activation, Collapse, and the Trauma Gut
Jennifer Doctorovich, LPC-A, FNTP
with Amy Rawls, MS, RD, LD, FMNS, CGN
The "fight or flight" mechanism and its effects on the gut have long been known by clinicians. We were always been taught that our patients have control over their interpretation of stress. But have we been taught wrong? What if some patients simply can't reinterpret stress due to systemic trauma, all of which can result in digestive dysfunction?
According to Polyvagal Theory, people with a history of developmental trauma can experience a form of cardiac and cognitive immobilization when faced with strong emotions, which also involves a suppression of their immune system and gastrointestinal function. In this webinar you will learn about the effects of stress on the gut and receive training on exercises, nutritional considerations, and enzyme therapy interventions to improve vagal tone in your patients.
